I get a certain rush from spending large sums of money, quickly, and in rapid succession with each other. Wait, not really.
Young-me would be appalled at what my money goes towards now. When I turned eighteen, my friends rented a country house for the weekend, and the three of us went up there and basically did "nothing" - made dinner, drank, danced, etc etc. We were all laying in bed together when one of them said, "Could you imagine how mad you would be if this were your birthday present when you were nine? You would never forgive your parents."
The same logic explains how spending money on hotel rooms isn't senseless; it's a luxurious necessity.
(The same holds true for plane tickets, and certain clothes items)
