Throwing up before or after certain events really drives the severity of them home. The same could be said about when I used to smoke cigarettes; they were social punctuation.

Take the cliche example of someone having a cigarette after sex, for example. That punctuates the situation. But think of how much more throwing up after sex would say about the situation! So my life was very extreme at that point.
